Writer's Block Ink to Launch Introductory Arts Program for Ages 6-9

Writer's Block Ink to Launch Introductory Arts Program for group ages 6-9

Saturday Program Includes Music, Dance, Acting

New London, CT – The Writer’s Block Ink is set to launch The Building Blocks Program for younger participants in the New London County area. Youth between the ages of 6-9 will now have the opportunity to be exposed to introductory performing arts classes that will help to cultivate young minds by exposing them to the arts at a very early age. This fun-filled 8 week long Saturday program will allow participants to learn self-expression, build confidence, and build upon social skills as they learn music, dance and acting within a welcoming group setting. According to PBS.org, studies show that there is a strong correlation between art and other achievement. The Building Blocks Program is a great opportunity for parents who are looking for a platform where their children can grow creatively, socially, and even academically.

Programming will begin on March 21, 2015. There will be three Saturdays of Intro to Music, Three Saturdays of Intro to Dance and Two Saturdays of Intro to Acting. At the end of the 8-week program, a final performance will be showcased by participants for their families, friends, and the community. In order to register, a participant must call (860) 442-5625.

ABOUT THE BLOCK: The Writers Block Ink, Inc. transforms youth and communities through the arts. Our primary mission is to arm young voices with the power of pen and prose, reinforcing teamwork, accountability, and responsibility to ignite social change on the page and stage

All Writer’s Block productions address serious social issues youth and communities regularly encounter. These include micro and macro themes of abuse, discrimination, peer pressure, bullying, drugs, teen pregnancy, family dysfunction, racism, violence, war, etc.

We establish an environment that invites and nurtures individual and collective creativity. We engage youth from all walks of life to use all aspects of theatre as a tool to address personal and social challenges. At the Block, we invite and encourage youth to open up, speak up, create and perform.  We find, feed, and launch young leaders.
