In the true spirit of the holiday season, Groton Wireless Zone owners Neil Ryan and Scott Gladstone are giving back to the community. Biannually, the business partners nominate nonprofit organizations in Eastern Connecticut and Southern Rhode Island to receive grants from The Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving® Inc. Established in 2003, the foundation is a collaborative giving program that enhances each individual stores’ capacity to help the communities they serve. “This giving cycle, we’re thrilled to Always Home is excited to announce the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors: Joshua Carter, Lauren Cipriani-Espineira and Robert Sampson, who will also serve as Board Treasurer. Elected at the October Annual Board meeting, each new volunteer member brings experience, knowledge and compassion for Always Home’s mission, Preventing Family Homelessness.

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, the annual Mudhead Benefit Cup Regatta & MegaParty raised over $14,000 for Always Home. Tricia Cunningham, Executive Director of the Mystic-based nonprofit, said, “We are honored to be this year’s beneficiary and grateful for the amazing support and opportunity to share with new friends Always Home’s mission, Preventing Family Homelessness.”
Mudhead Race Committee Chairman, Greg Gilmartin The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation recently awarded numerous grants to support 30 programs that benefit children and families in the region.
The mission of the Foundation, a 501(c)3 overseen by a volunteer board with support from the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT, is to enhance and enrich education and economic opportunities for children and families through generous donations from the business community. The Foundation provides local child-focused non-profits with crucial resources that Mystic, CT (December 1, 2021) — Always Home has been selected by Stop & Shop as this month’s beneficiary of their Community Bag Program. The local nonprofit will receive a $1 donation for every $2.50 reusable Give Back bag purchased at the store located at 91 Voluntown Road in Pawcatuck, CT during the month of December.

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation awarded grants in excess of $94,000 in support of 37 programs that benefit children and families in the region on March 24, 2020.
“At this critical time for many nonprofits, the Foundation worked to swiftly disburse funds to the recipients,” said Tony Sheridan, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT. “The Board members did a wonderful job of making ready the At an in-store presentation today, Always Home received a $5,000 donation from Big Y. Always Home’s Executive Director, Betty Smith, acknowledged that this gift will have a positive and enduring community impact. “A single Always Home is pleased to announce the appointment of new Executive Director, Betty Smith. Smith is passionate about Always Home’s mission, Preventing Family Homelessness. She has been a member of Always Home’s Board of Directors and an active volunteer. Smith brings to the position a history of high-level, corporate experience and a commitment to volunteerism.
“Always Home is a non-profit that has had an out-sized positive impact in our community and is poised for tremendous future growth,” shares Always Home announced the award of a multi-year grant by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut. The $75,000 funding, to be allocated over a three-year period, will support Always Home’s work Preventing Family Homelessness. The non-profit agency works exclusively with homeless and at-risk families with minor children.
Always Home’s Interim Executive Director, Betty Smith, acknowledged the importance of securing this grant. “Always Home is committed to addressing the issue of family homelessness Local Non-Profits Benefit From Credit Union’s Giving ProgramWaterford, CT – Charter Oak Federal Credit Union awarded $18,850 to 10 local non-profits as part of its quarterly giving grants disbursement.
Grant recipients included Always Home, Inc.; Cutler Middle School PTO; Groton Parks Foundation, Inc.; High Hopes Therapeutic Riding Inc.; Madonna Place, Inc.; Striving Towards Empowered Personal Success; Sails Up 4 Cancer; Salt Marsh Opera Company, Inc.; Southeastern Connecticut Enterprise Region; and the Pfizer’s Groton Laboratories and the Clinical Research Unit, New Haven will support more than 60 programs in Southeastern Connecticut, the greater New Haven area, and southern Rhode Island through its 2018 competitive grants program.
Priority was given to programs that bring science and math to students from elementary through high school. Additional awards were made for programs that provide for the underserved or to support local civic and cultural institutions. Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality needs your help striking out family homelessness!
Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality’s annual gala is set for May 5 at Mystic Seaport’s North Lawn and River Room at Latitude 41°. The sports-themed fun begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes games, gourmet tailgating fare, open bar, major league silent and live auctions, and dancing to the beat of Power Posse.
