Norwich, CT – Now in its 22nd year, the Annual Men Against Domestic Violence Radiothon will be a 5-day on-air and on-line campaign. The awareness and fundraising effort, which benefits Safe Futures, will run from Monday, February 6 through Friday, February 10, 2017, during which listeners of WCTY 97.7, WNLC 98.7 FM, ROXY 100.9 FM and WICH 1310 AM will hear on-air spots to engage the community against domestic violence and will be invited to visit AgainstViolence.org, a special website that will give listeners ways to take action against domestic violence and support the work of Safe Futures.

Hall Radio on-air personalities, including Jimmy Lane, Shelly Martinez, Dave Elder, Chris Dillon and Franco, will host their regular programs throughout the campaign while sharing information about Safe Futures, real-life stories of survival and making a difference, as well as discuss how our community is impacted by domestic violence.  Listeners will be able to visit a special webpage, www.AgainstViolence.org, to sign a pledge against violence, list their name in the Men Against Domestic Violence list which will appear in The Day and The Norwich Bulletin on Father’s Day, and make tax-deductible donations and pledges to benefit Safe Futures.  Hall Communications and its four radio stations - WCTY, WNLC, ROXY and WICH - are the lead sponsors of this event. DZYNR has created web page. The Day and The Norwich Bulletin are also sponsors.

Did you know?

  • On average, 3 women are killed every day in the U.S. by a current or former intimate partner.

  • Approximately 25% of those who receive free, confidential services from Safe Futures are male. (This includes male victims as well as male children who are sheltered with their mothers.)

  • Boys who witness abuse are twice as likely to be abusers as adults.

“With statistics like these, everyone is impacted by domestic violence - whether they realize it or not. We at Hall Communications care and are committed to doing our part, spreading the word and connecting our listeners with this important cause,” says Andy Russell, VP & General Manager at Hall.

Safe Futures saves lives, restores hope and changes the future for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault throughout southeastern Connecticut. Safe Futures, now celebrating 40 years of service, was founded in 1976 as the Women’s Center of Southeastern CT. Today, Safe Futures provides free, confidential services to over 4,500 women, children and men annually. It operates two 24-hour hotlines, an emergency shelter and a transitional living program. It also provides legal assistance, counseling and advocacy, case management, support groups and educational programs for schools as community groups.  All 21 towns in New London County are served by the agency.

Safe Futures is a member agency of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV).  Safe Futures is also a Partner Agency of United Way and its programs are funded in part by the State of Connecticut’s Departments of Social Service, Mental Health and Addiction Services, and Office of Victim Services, Judicial Branch.
