Eastern CT Symphony Chorus Appoints New Director

Following a recent search for a new director, the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus (ECSC) has appointed Wendy K. Moy as its Director. Ms. Moy succeeds past ECSC Director Mark Singleton, who led the Chorus for nearly 20 years, and heralded in a period of growth and artistic vibrancy. ECSO Music Director, Toshiyuki Shimada, was quoted as saying “Mark Singleton has created a chorus that any orchestral conductor would dream of collaborating with. After our intensive search for a new director, I am confident that Wendy Moy will be an excellent leader and will continue Mark’s legacy of building our beloved chorus.”

Upon notification of her selection, Wendy Moy had the following statement: "I am excited to join the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus as their new Director. I look forward to getting to know the musicians and creating beautiful and engaging music together."

President and member of the ECSC, Kathy Walburn, voiced excitement for the future in saying “Mark’s accomplishments with the chorus were remarkable in shaping and directing our sound for the past 18 years, making us one of the most accomplished singing groups in the area. He will be missed. But as one door closes, another always opens, and we are very excited to embrace the next stage of our musical journey with Wendy Moy!”

Ms. Moy will lead the Chorus in preparation for their two classical concert appearances with the ECSO on Saturday, November 17, 2018 and Saturday, April 27, 2019. Additionally, she will prepare and direct the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus for their concerts in the fall and winter.

In addition to these timeless composers, we have co-commissioned a new work by Michael Torke, which will feature violinist, Tessa Lark, performing a bluegrass-style concerto.
