Southeast Area Women and Girls Fund Awards $4,920 to The Arc New London County

The Arc New London County’s Community Life & Advocacy component received a $4,920 from the Southeast Area Women and Girls Fund, sponsored by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut and the Baker Costa Mallette Fund.

The grant will support the “Voices” program for women with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are survivors or at risk of domestic violence and/or sexual abuse. Funds will allow for outside facilitators to hold a variety of interactive workshops on self-care, decision-making skills, and healthy lifestyle choices.

“Credible studies put the number of women with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are survivors of sexual abuse as high as 80%,” said Kathleen Stauffer, CEO of The Arc NLC. “The Community Foundation and its Women & Girls Fund deserve a lot of credit for taking a progressive and visionary role in helping the women we serve to survive, heal and thrive.”
