Herbs for Hearth and Health
Foodways historian Leslie Evans will lead this hands-on class. Learn about the importance of herbs in an 18th century household for both food and medicine, and how you can still use them in your own home today. Spend time in the herb garden and the historic kitchen of the 1759 Nathaniel Hempsted House, learning how to grow herbs and how they were used historically. You'll make herbal butter and a bottle of infused vinegar to take home, and create your own sweet dream sachet. We'll end the afternoon with a tea party, sampling some delicious herbal teas and homemade treats using the bounty of our garden. Space is limited and reservations are required. Email hempsted@ctlandmarks.org or call 860-443-7949. $15/person.
