Latin Views 2014: The Final Biennial
The final biennial international exhibition presented by the Latin Network for the Visual Arts showcases more than 70 pieces of contemporary fine art from the Latin World by 43 artists representing 18 countries. The opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery in the Branford House Mansion.at the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Art at the University .of Connecticut at Avery Point, 1084 Shennecossett Road, Groton, Conn., 860-405-9052; www.averypointarts.uconn.edu; www.lnva.us. Latin Views 2014 is the seventh international biennial exhibit organized by the LNVA based in Gales Ferry, Conn. Gastón O. Daumy and Mimi Daumy founded the LNVA in 2003. The exhibition marks the closure of a project started 11 years ago with the mission of bringing visual art and cultural enrichment from the Latin World to the community of Southeastern Connecticut and beyond. The exhibition's artists from Latin America and Latin Europe represent 18 countries ? Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, France, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela and the United States. Nine of the artists live in Connecticut or Rhode Island The Friday, Sept. 19, opening is followed by a Meet-the-Artists event Saturday, Sept. 20, from 12 to 1 p.m., at the gallery. Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Sundays, 12 to 4 p.m. and by special arrangement.
