Nonprofit Conference: Your Board Made Perfect
Your Board Made Perfect: Improving Nonprofit Fundraising and Governance
Presented by the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT and the Community Foundation of Eastern CT
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
During this full day workshop, your team, ideally consisting of your CEO, Development Director, and at least three board members, will have the opportunity to examine board governance and the board’s role in fundraising in a retreat format.
Your team will develop a plan to improve board leadership over the next year. Board members will also learn effective and simple fundraising strategies. Because your organization will be represented by multiple board leaders, and not just the CEO or board chair, you will have created a change team by the end of the afternoon.
Topics your team will discuss:
• WHY the board must have a culture of relationship-building
• HOW board members can be great fundraisers and never ask for money
• HOW do trends in the nonprofit sector effect your organization?
• IS your board size and structure appropriate for effective governance?
• DO you have successful board recruitment, orientation, retention, and evaluation?
About the Facilitator: Chuck V. Loring, CFRE, senior partner of Loring, Sternberg, & Associates, provides fundraising and governance consulting services to nonprofits. Loring is also a Senior Governance Associate for BoardSource in Washington, DC, offering expertise in board development and other governance issues to boards across the country.
