16th Annual Twilight Trail Run to Take Place June 3, Safe Futures to Benefit

Seeking runners, walkers, sponsors, and volunteers

The sixteenth annual Twilight Trail Run to benefit Safe Futures will take place on Friday, June 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at Bluff Point State Park and Haley Farm in Groton, CT. More information, application, and a link to on-line registration can be found at www.TwilightTrailRun.com.

The Twilight Trail Run accommodates everyone from serious runners through walkers, while supporting an important cause in southeastern Connecticut. Runners can participate in a timed race while other participants can walk through Bluff Point and Haley Farm. In addition to the race, participants will enjoy a scenic venue, picnic and prizes.

Twilight Trail Run welcomes sponsorships and donations of raffle/prize items. Volunteers are also needed. Soup and water will be provided by Aramark, who supplies food to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Timing will be by SNERRO, with additional support from the Eastern CT Amateur Radio Association and the Coast Guard Academy EMTs. The event would not be complete without students from the CT Center for Massage Therapy in Groton.  Potential sponsors (either direct donation or raffle prizes) and volunteers can contact the Race Director at twilighttrailrun@hotmail.com.

Twilight Trail Run is organized by a few dedicated friends, who are strongly supported by the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers.

Safe Futures was started in 1976 with a group concerned individuals in the basement of the Branford House Mansion at Avery Point Groton. Nearly 40 years later, it continues to serve as the region’s strongest advocate for those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault through the provision of services to nearly 5,000 women, children and men in New London County each year. Safe Futures saves lives, restores hope and changes the future for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault throughout southeastern CT. Safe Futures – which changed its name from the Women’s Center last September to better reflect the full scope of its programs – was founded in 1976 and operates two 24-hour hotlines, an emergency shelter and a transitional living program for families working to rebuild lives shattered by violence and abuse.  Safe Futures also provides legal assistance, counseling and advocacy, case management, support groups and educational programs for schools as community groups.  All 21 towns in New London County are served by the agency.
Safe Futures is part of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV).  Safe Futures is also a Partner Agency of United Way and its programs are funded in part by the State of Connecticut’s Departments of Social Service, Mental Health and Addiction Services, and Office of Victim Services, Judicial Branch.
