59th Annual Eastern CT Symphony Orchestra Competition March 17, 2018

The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra invites young instrumentalists, including pianists, to apply to its annual Instrumental Competition. This competition, now in its 59th year, was established to recognize the outstanding talents of emerging young musicians through the age of 25. A maximum number of 12 contestants will be selected for the final round held at Evans Hall on the campus of Connecticut College in New London, CT on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 1:00pm. The finals are open to the public, and the Friends of the Symphony will provide refreshments for both guests and competitors.

The first prize winner will receive a cash award of $2,000 and a possible appearance as guest soloist with the orchestra. Second prize will receive a $1,000 cash award. Third prize will receive a $500 cash award. Past first prize winners have included violinist, Clare Elena Semes; cellist, Jung-Hsuan Ko; flutist, Joanna Wu; and Yi Qun Xu, cellist, who is featured as a soloist on ECSO’s February 24, 2018 concert, Paintings & Pictures.

A competition CD or .mp3 (320kbps quality) must accompany the application which must be sent by email at daniel@ectsymphony.com or by mail to the ECSO office by the deadline date of Friday, February 2, 2018. The application and guidelines can be viewed and downloaded at www.ectsymphony.com.
