Charter Oak is Giving Away $100,000 in 100 Days

Charter Oak To Match Its Members Charitable Donations Through November 22nd

Waterford, CT – Charter Oak Federal Credit Union will again award $100,000 in 100 days to 501(c)(3) charities by way of its Matching Gifts Program.

“Credit union membership has its perks,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We value our members, and are looking forward to offering them an opportunity to maximize their charitable contributions for the second year in a row.”

The credit union re-launched its Matching Gifts Program on Monday, August 14th. The program will conclude on Wednesday, November 22nd. During that time period Charter Oak will match all qualified donations made by its primary members to 501(c)(3) charities. Donations will be matched in $25 increments; each primary member has the opportunity to have their charitable donations matched up to $500.

Members wishing to take advantage of this benefit should visit https://charteroak.org/content/matching-gifts and should complete the Matching Gifts Request Form. New and existing members are eligible for this program.

The Matching Gifts Program was first launched in 2016, and was well promoted by local charities including the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, Care and Share of East Lyme, and the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. Charities that wish to promote the program should contact CharterOakMarketing@cofcu.com to obtain a promotional toolkit. Almost all 501(c)(3) charities can benefit from Charter Oak’s Matching Gifts Program.

“We care about our members, and want to support the organizations that are most meaningful to them,” said Orenstein. “And that will include matching donations to charities that are outside our field of membership in New London and Windham counties.”

The credit union has made several improvements to the program since its 2016 launch. Most significantly, the maximum amount matched was elevated from $100 to $500 making the program more impactful for charities and donors. In addition, charities will submit all information electronically to the credit union to expedite the processing of all requests.

Charter Oak’s multi-faceted Community Giving Program offers a variety of opportunities to its members, nearby community organizations and to charities. To learn more about the credit union’s scholarship, grant, or sponsorship programs, visit CharterOak.org.
