Charter Oak Will Award $90,000 in College Scholarships

Waterford, CT – For the second consecutive year, Charter Oak Federal Credit Union will be awarding $90,000 in college scholarships this spring to students in New London and Windham counties.

The credit union will accept scholarship applications now through Thursday, March 15, 2018. Applications must be submitted electronically, and can be found at https://charteroak.org/content/scholarship-program. Applicants must be members of the credit union; non-members can visit any branch location or call 860.446.8085 or 800.962.3237 to become a member, and to become eligible for a $2,000 scholarship.

A total of 45 scholarships will be awarded. The scholarship program rewards students who are involved in their local communities through volunteer activities and who maintain a strong grade point average. The credit union prides itself on community involvement, and has awarded more than $2 million since 2009 to college-bound students, non-profits and community organizations.

This unique scholarship program will reward at least one high school senior from each eligible high school in New London and Windham counties with a $2,000 scholarship. Most high school student applicants will essentially be competing against their peers, rather than competing with students throughout eastern Connecticut.

Current college students are welcome to apply; their applications will be reviewed and scholarships will be awarded at Charter Oak’s discretion. All scholarship recipients will be recognized during a private reception this spring at Charter Oak’s headquarters in Waterford.
