Girls on the Run Program at Teachers' Memorial Global Studies Magnet Middle School

UCFS Healthcare is proud to announce that they have partnered with Teachers’ Memorial Global Studies Magnet Middle School and Girls on the Run to sponsor a Girls’ on the Run program this spring for girls at the middle school.  The program is designed to use running to motivate girls, encourage life-long fitness, and build confidence.  UCFS Healthcare is able to bring Girls on the Run to Teachers’ Memorial Global Studies Magnet Middle School thanks to a generous grant from Dime Bank.

The program runs for 10 weeks and the participants meet twice each week to discuss motivational topics and train toward a 5K run at the culmination of the program.  The girls have a goal of participating in the Girls on the Run 5K which takes place Saturday, May 4th.  Volunteers from the community support the girls in their training and serve as mentors.

Dime Bank has been a generous sponsor of UCFS Healthcare programs and services for many years and is committed to supporting the health and well-being of our community’s youth.  UCFS Healthcare is grateful for their support in this new endeavor.

To support this program, UCFS Healthcare is looking for several volunteer assistant coaches who would be available to support the head coach in guiding the girls through the program.  Responsibilities of the volunteer coaches will be:

  • Attend program meetings 2 days per week from 2:45pm – 4:15pm starting the end of February to May. Each meeting includes a warm- up, stretching, and topic discussion followed by a workout and a wrap-up session.

  • Assist the girls in participating in The Girls on the run 5K event the first weekend of May

  • Attend the 2 ½ hour mandatory training for volunteers. Background checks and CPR trainings are provided for coaches.

Running experience is great, but not required. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Julia Cooper at jcooper@ucfs.org or 860.934.1101.
