Join us for a virtual chat with Wall Street Journal reporter and Waterford native Julie Wernau, in conversation with former New York Times editorial writer Maura Casey.

Julie returned from China last month and continues to write on the coronavirus from Chicago. She will discuss her recent work reporting from Beijing, as well as her career in journalism. Both speakers are former reporters for The Day.

Julie Wernau was recently expelled from China, where she wrote about China's consumer market for The Wall Street Journal in Beijing. While in the US, she’ll be based in Chicago and pitching in on WSJ’s coverage of COVID-19’s impact on businesses and the economy. Previously, she covered emerging markets and commodities for the Journal in New York, including distressed debt in Venezuela, Mozambique and Argentina and frozen concentrated orange juice. She came to the Wall Street Journal from Chicago, where she wrote about the energy sector for the Chicago Tribune. A native of Connecticut, Julie spent the early part of her career on the crime beat at The Day in New London and writing about Waterford for The Waterford Times.
