Mystic Arts Center Announces George G. King as New Executive Director

Mystic, CT – Mystic Arts Center (MAC) Board of Directors announces the engagement of a new Executive Director, George G. King.  King has more than 25 years as an art museum professional, and has served as director of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, the Katonah Museum of Art and the American Federation of Arts.

King is especially noted for his work in the positioning, branding and the re-launching of arts organizations through exhibitions, education and outreach programs, and collaborations and strategic partnerships. He has overseen the development of over 70 exhibitions of diverse subjects covering cultures from around the globe, many of which have traveled to nationally and internationally prominent art museums.  He has curated numerous exhibitions and served as an exhibition juror, most recently for the Cairo Biennale. For the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and the Katonah Museum of Art, King managed the first-time accreditation process which was awarded by the American Alliance of Museums.

He has served as a member of the board directors of the American Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD), the College of Santa Fe, now the Santa Fe College of Art and Design, and currently serves on the Board of East Side Settlement House in the Bronx, NY.

"We are very excited to have George King assume the leadership role at MAC," says Board President, Mary Anne Stets. "His talent and proven ability to develop world-class exhibitions is matched by his command of the administrative aspects of managing strategic planning and fundraising campaigns, while at the same time recruiting board members and other senior staff."

Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Mr. King spent much of his youth living abroad in Africa and France. He is married to Sarah S. King and has two children.
