Popular Breezeline Winter Movie Series to Open at Garde Arts Center January 19, 2024

The Breezeline Winter Cinema Series, celebrating twenty or more of the finest nominated and acclaimed films of 2023, will open at the Garde Arts Center’s historic movie palace at 325 State Street in downtown New London on Friday, January 19 at 7:30 pm with Maestro, the love story of America’s most famous conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein starring Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan and directed by Cooper. The Maestro screening will include opening remarks by a student of Bernstein, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra maestro Toshiyuki Shimada. The film also features the London Symphony Orchestra which once performed on the Garde stage. The opening week also includes the comedy The Holdovers starring Paul Giamatti, Martin Scorsese’s star-studded masterpiece Killers of the Flower Moon, and author Judy Blume’s coming-of-age story  Are You There God?  It’s Me Margaret, hosted by a cast member, Kate MacCluggage,  a Southeastern Connecticut native and celebrated actress. The series continues February 2 to 4 with Barbie, which will include an audience participatory,  Priscilla, a  biography of the woman who became Elvis’ wife,  Oppenheimer, the physicist who developed the atom bomb,  and Past Lives, a romantic drama. Other films still in the process of being scheduled include May December, Chevalier, Air, Rustin, Poor Things, American Fiction, Fallen Leaves, Nyad, Zone of Interest, Oscar Short Films, and others to be announced.
