In 1964 the local 1522 Fire Department started a youth activity in New London. For years "The Surfers Drum and Bugle Corps" entertained thousands and in 1971 became World Champions.
Surfers folded and one year later Sword Excalibur Drum and Bugle Corps was born. Sword folded in the early and there wasn't another Drum Corps in New London until 2000 when 7th Regiment was founded and fielded. Over the past 24 years, 7th Regiment has thrived, 5-time World Open Drumline Battle Champions, 10 years Open Class top 10. Traveling the Northeast and Midwest representing New London.
On July 20, 2024 at Ocean Beach Port and Starboard we will be celebrating our founding fathers with a Gala.(Firefighters Pete Gilmore, Bob Stanners, Art Nunes, John O'Connor, Herb Tiffany) as well as all Connecticut Drum Corps past and present, members and staff who participated in or are still part of this amazing youth activity for almost a century across the state of Connecticut.
