Monday, July 31 – August 1, 2023:

Celebrate Herman Melville’s Birthday with the annual Moby – Dick Marathon! We take 24 hours and invite museum guests to take a turn reading from Melville’s masterwork of American Literature. On Monday, enjoy performances of Moby Dick in Minutes at 1 pm and 3:30 pm, and a special indigenous Mariners Talk at 4 pm. Overnight accommodation aboard the Charles W. Morgan is currently sold out, but we start back up again on Tuesday morning at 9 am and finish reading around noon when we will celebrate Melville’s achievement with a celebratory cake for participants.

LAST CHANCE! Voyaging in the Wake of the Whalers exhibit will be closing at the end of August in preparation for a new exhibit installation opening in 2024. This beloved exhibit that opened in 2014, shares the story of how America went from a nation of whale hunters to whale watchers. Featuring more than 300 artifacts from the Museum’s collection including film, artifacts and photographs, don’t miss the chance for a final look at this compelling story.

Get out on the Water:
Families can enjoy getting out on the water at our boathouse with free rentals of rowboats, sailboats and pedal boats all summer long.
Sabino: We are in the final stretch of Coast Guard approvals for the operation of Sabino. We are looking forward to running her under her new diesel electric system starting in August!
