Relay For Life of New London County Seashore is holding a kick-off!

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of New London County Seashore will hold a kickoff for the annual event on February 7, 2015 from 10.am. to 12 p.m. at Great Neck Country Club, 28 Lamphere Rd. Waterford. The Society is inviting people who are interested in learning more and getting involved in the event to attend.

The kickoff program will honor cancer survivors and caregivers and feature the Society’s mission to save lives from cancer. Attendees will have the opportunity to register a team for the Relay For Life event, which will be held June 27-28th at Connecticut College.

Relay For Life is a community event where teams and individuals camp out at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times and participates in fundraising that supports the American Cancer Society’s mission to save lives and finish the fight against cancer. Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide in 2014. Last year, 400 people participated in New London County and raised $85,000.

“The Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all,” said Mary Pratt, event committee member. “This is our community’s opportunity to fight back against cancer.”

About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of nearly three million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 22 percent decline in cancer death rates in the US during the past two decades, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress nearly 14.5 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year.  We're determined to finish the fight against cancer. As the nation’s  largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, we’re finding cures and ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more. For more information, to get help, or to join the fight, visit cancer.org or call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345.
