Coast Guard Wrestling Ranked 10th Nationally

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy wrestling team has its highest ever national ranking as the Bears are tied for 10th nationally in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Preseason poll.

The Bears, who were 9-3 in dual meets last season and placed 2nd at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional a year ago, are only team from New England in the preseason poll which ranks the top 15 teams in the country.

Coast Guard also has four wrestlers with national rankings entering the season. Senior A.J. Aeberli, who earned All-America honors with a sixth place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship at 174 pounds last season, is ranked fourth in the first rankings this season.

He is joined by a trio of NCAA qualifiers last year as senior Pat Irwin, is sixth at 197 pounds, junior Jon Wagner is seventh at 197 pounds and sophomore Paul Detwiler is eighth at 184 pounds to start the season.

Coast Guard will open the season at the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield on Nov. 23rd.
