On January 18, 2017, Kim “Kenny” Weeks of New London, CT, was struck and killed on Route 85 in Waterford by a minivan operated by Shirley Langford, a nurse formerly of East Lyme, Connecticut. The minivan was owned by Ms. Langford’s business, Interim Healthcare of Eastern Connecticut. Immediately prior to the collision, law enforcement received numerous emergency calls of erratic operation of Ms. Langford’s minivan in the vicinity of Route 85. Ms. Langford was ultimately pulled over by Connecticut State Celebrate children’s songs and learn about children’s music at the “Artists & Educators Children’s Songs Conference & Festival,” Saturday, April 6, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., in the Clarke Center at Mitchell College. Charter Oak Federal Credit Union donated $100,000 in emergency food assistance to eastern Connecticut’s food pantries and food centers to help boost food supplies to those in need during the holiday season.
For the second year in a row 20 food pantries received $5,000 this past December for much-needed food supplies at food centers and food pantries serving New London and Windham counties.

The grant will enable the hospital to assist patients through its Patient Assistance Fund with transportation to and from the Smilow Cancer Hospital in Waterford for treatment and physician appointments.
Annual mammograms and any recommended biopsies are crucial to identifying breast cancer early, and early detection can lead to better outcomes.
Middlesex Health uses a special breast biopsy system to perform stereotactic, ultrasound and MRI-guided biopsies at its Radiology locations. These image-guided biopsies allow the radiologist to obtain a small tissue sample for laboratory testing and are less invasive than a surgical biopsy.

The event honors the memory of Gordon Keller, a local triathlete who lost his life in a tragic accident while on a training ride. Eric Galvin has been named Chair of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut’s 2019 Community Campaign.
Galvin is President of ConnectiCare, with more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry. In his new role as Chair, he’ll serve on United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut’s Board of Directors.

Coast Guard is coming off its most successful season in over a decade as the Bears finished 7-3 overall and tied for second in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 5-2 record. It was the most wins for the Bears since the team went 8-2 in 2007. U.S. Coast Guard LTJG Nikole Barnes has teamed with Lara Dallman-Weiss to chase the dream of qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
Barnes and Dallman-Weiss, Team Perfect Vision Sailing, will next compete August 17-22 in Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Japan, which is the host venue for the 2020 Olympic Games.
The duo qualified in the Women's 470 by finishing 20th out of a 45 boat fleet at the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar regatta in Spain in April. Last week, students from West Woods Upper Elementary School and Bike Friendly Farmington celebrated Bike to School Day with a ride along the Farmington Trail.
Since ConnectiCare’s headquarters are located on the bike route, the health insurer sent a group of employees to cheer on the students and their own Neil Kelsey, Vice President and Chief Actuary for ConnectiCare, who is involved with Bike Friendly Farmington and joined the students for the ride.

Since the 1982-83 Reliance Health announced this week that their Board of Directors has appointed Carrie Dyer as Chief Executive Officer upon current CEO, David Burnett’s retirement. Burnett, who has been the organization’s CEO for nearly 41 years, announce plans to retire by the end of 2019 in a press release last month.

Rodriguez placed third in the 50 freestyle with a school record time of 19.88 and was part of the 200 medley relay team with Patrick Jackson, Chasse Sodemann and Tyler Dominick which finished in eighth with a time of 1:29.98 to earn All-America honors.
