Opera in the Art Park Supports Infinite Possibilities Public Art Project

The Infinite Possibilities Public Art Project launched the fundraising campaign for the installation of a 30-foot bronze sculpture on Shore Rock Island at Ocean Beach Park in New London. The sculpture, Infinity, is a 21-foot Neo-classical style cast bronze female figure that holds aloft a 10-foot infinity loop. The stainless steel loop will be illuminated at night and will be a beacon of light that can be seen from the mouth of the Thames River, Long Island Sound, and from the shore at Ocean Beach Park.

As part of the fundraising efforts for the Infinite Possibilities project, the “Opera in the Art Park” concert series featuring both nationally and internationally acclaimed opera singers will be held at both Hygienic Art Park and the Eugene O'Neill Theater this summer.

The sculptor, Renee Rhodes, said, “This gateway sculpture will attract visitors to the City of New London and provide inspiration and pride to the community.” Renee Rhodes is a Connecticut sculptor (www.reneerhodes.com) who has completed two other cast bronze public art works in New London: Athena Stands Watch on Eugene O'Neill Drive, and Gaia in The Hygienic Art Park.

“’Opera in the Art Park’ was developed to cross all barriers with regard to music, taste, locale and income level,” stated Robert DeRobbio, Ph.D., President of the Infinite Possibilities Board.
