Full Schedule of Music-Making Offered on June 21 Celebrate Music. Celebrate Community.

The Cultural Coalition is pleased to present the regional schedule of music-making for the seventh annual Make Music Day Southeastern CT, part of a global music celebration that takes place on the summer solstice each year. www.MakeMusicDay.org/southeasternCT has the listing of participating musicians, towns and venues, confirmed performance times and other details.

Local retail shops, libraries, parks, museums, and outdoor spaces are hosting activities - all free and open to the public. Nearly 30 venues are expected to participate. Events will be held at multiple locations in New London, Old Lyme, and Norwich. Stonington, Groton, Preston, Waterford, East Lyme and Old Saybrook will also have "stages" that bring people together to celebrate, create and share music.

Unlike a traditional music festival, Make Music Day encourages the natural music maker in all of us, regardless of age, skill level or genre. The diverse performance line-up has something for everyone including folk, blues, rock, pop, and country - from solo musicians, duos and groups.

Participatory events include: a sing-a-long for pre-schoolers at Preston Public Library, and ukulele instruction and drumming class at Artreach in Norwich. Spindrift Guitars in New London is part of "String Together," an international initiative supported by Elixir Strings, providing restringing with a free set of guitar strings for those that register. The Marina at American Wharf, Taino Productions, and Global City Norwich have come together to present "Havana Nights: Salsa at the Marina." Free admission includes a Salsa lesson at 7:30pm, live band and DJ.

New this year, the big New London sign on Golden Street/Eugene O'Neill Drive becomes a giant keyboard! This unique STEAM initiative is made possible by Spark Makerspace's electronics & technology group using a Makey Makey kit that helps to turn everyday objects into touchpads. Stop by from 2-6pm to try it out!

Make Music Day Southeastern CT is presented by the Cultural Coalition with support from New London Music Festivals. Make Music Day Southeastern CT is supported by the Department of Economic & Community Development, CT Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
