TVCCA joins Meals on Wheels America and Subaru of America, Inc. in Sharing the Love this Holiday Season

The 13th annual Subaru Share the Love® Event will help deliver nutritious meals and compassion to Eastern Connecticut’s seniors

Thames Valley Council for Community Action (TVCCA) is proud to announce that it will be participating in the 2020 Subaru Share the Love Event as a member of Meals on Wheels America – one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the campaign. From November 19, 2020, through January 4, 2021, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.

Participating Meals on Wheels America members, like TVCCA, will receive a share of the donation raised by Subaru in their state. TVCCA has partnered with Secor Subaru in New London, CT to raise awareness for the popular year-end sales and giving event. Owner Charles Secor has committed to making an additional $50 donation to TVCCA Meals on Wheels for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased at the dealership during the Share the Love Event.

“The staff at Secor Subaru has provided the energy and synergy behind Share the Love in New London, CT, demonstrating their commitment to community, to those who live in the community and to a very special population of senior citizens,” says TVCCA CEO Deborah Monahan. “These seniors have been part of the community and active for many years, have contributed significantly to its vitality over the past seventy years, and now, thanks to Meals on Wheels and support from the community like that from Secor Subaru, are aging in place. We are honored by Secor’s partnership, their commitment to community and deeply privileged to be their Hometown Charity.”

Over the last 12 years, Subaru of America and its participating retailers have donated more than $176 million to its charity partners. This year’s Subaru Share the Love Event is on track to bring that total to over $200 million, proving there’s no limit to the amount of love we can all share.

“Meals on Wheels America is proud to partner with Subaru of America for the 13th consecutive year to enable more seniors to live with independence and dignity,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO, Meals on Wheels America. “Since 2008, the Subaru Share the Love Event has helped deliver more than 2.3 million meals and friendly visits to vulnerable seniors nationwide. We’re enormously grateful to Subaru and its retailers for their long-standing commitment to Meals on Wheels and the millions of seniors who depend on it for nourishment and companionship.”

By purchasing or leasing a new Subaru during the Subaru Share the Love Event and selecting Meals on Wheels as your charity of choice, you can help deliver nutritious meals and other important services to seniors right here in Eastern Connecticut.

TVCCA Meals on Wheels delivers more than 225,000 meals to 1,200 homebound seniors in New London, Windham, and parts of Tolland Counties each year.

TVCCA also provides meals at many senior centers throughout the region. With the closure of senior centers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, TVCCA has been forced to halt the Congregate dining services which are a nutritional mainstay for so many older residents. Overnight, all these seniors -- more than 1,100 -- became "homebound," and the requests for home-delivered meals have soared. Since the start of the pandemic, TVCCA has seen a 38% increase in seniors requesting Meals on Wheels.

Thanks to support from generous individual donors, foundations, and local businesses like Secor Subaru, TVCCA Meals on Wheels has been able to meet the needs of our community during this difficult time.
