Accounts Payable Accountant

Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative (“CMEEC”) is a public power entity that provides electric services to several municipal utilities and participating wholesale customers located in Connecticut. CMEEC was established in 1976 as a publicly directed joint action supply agency. Member owners are the Cities of Groton and Norwich, the Borough of Jewett City, South Norwalk Electric and Water, the Third Taxing District of the City of Norwalk, and Bozrah Light and Power Company. The Mohegan Tribal Utility Authority is a participating utility.

CMEEC is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as Accounts Payable Accountant within the Finance and Accounting Department.  This position is responsible for CMEEC’s general financial accounting with a focus on Accounts Payable.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Performs accounts payable invoice and payment process. Responds to all accounts payable inquires.
  • Performs integration of information from purchasing card system into the General Ledger.
  • Inventory accounting and reporting.
  • Performs tracking and reporting of prepaid expenses.
  • Posts entries to general ledger accounts

Position Requirements 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • Proficient in the entire Microsoft Office Suite of products including Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Microsoft Business Central Accounting software experience a plus

 Working Conditions


The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand at a desk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and to talk or to hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; or to walk and reach with hands and arms.
