A Modern Day Grange; We call ourselves 'A Modern Day Grange' for good reason. Founded in 1867, The Grange* is a national organization of local chapters. A social organization and gathering place for the agricultural community at large, The Grange "encourages families to band together to promote the economic well-being of the community and agriculture." The Grange became the social fabric that made the loneliness of farming less tedious — a place where farmers often met their future spouses. *Formal name: The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry. Fast-forward to the here and now... The Barn takes great pride in serving the community in other ways — a gathering place for food, drink, and LIVE entertainment — and also as a modern day Emporium. Our patrons enjoy LIVE music while sampling our own Barn Brew Co. Craft Beers and purchasing our own New England Hemp Farm brand products. Our Rich History Old-timers tell us that our premises were once home to the local Grange Chapter. Although we're not able to establish this as historically accurate, here's what we do know. In the Algonquin Indian language, "Poquonnock" means cleared land, i.e. trees and brush removed for cultivation — hence the term, Poquonnock Plains for the surrounding area, and the origin of the name of the village of Poquonnock Bridge here in Groton, CT. The Poquonnock River Walk is just next door to us, a wonderfully idyllic way to connect to Bluff Point State Park, while exercising and enjoying our natural surroundings — and working up a thirst to quench with our own Barn Brew Craft Beers! There are actually five different known spellings of "Poquonnock," however, our premises were most recently home to The Poquonnock (with and "o") Bridge Volunteer Fire House. The Barn
