MECHANICAL MARVELS: Automata. AGES 11 – 16

Description

Taught by Carol Mann. There is a measure of delight in watching the antics of mechanical toys and discovering the intricate clockwork or simple machines that drive their movement. This class is part art and part physics lesson. Mixed media will be used to create whimsical jointed sculptures and to build mechanisms that power them. Students will learn how to make and use a technical drawing and will construct and evaluate the range of motion possible with a few basic mechanisms. This class is designed to demonstrate that science can be fun.

 Five-week series. Wednesdays, 4:30 pm – 6 pm. November 5 – December 10 (No Class November 26).

 Members $115 / Nonmembers $135. All supplies included with registration.
