Description
The City of Norwich will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 with an event at 1:30 p.m. at the David Ruggles Freedom Courtyard next to city hall.
The event is free to attend and will feature patriotic music, Abraham Lincoln’s speech at Independence Hall, prayer led by the Most Reverend Richard Francis Reidy, Bishop of the Norwich Diocese and ringing of the Norwich Freedom Bell by local girl scouts.
Norwich Mayor Swarnjit Singh is excited to honor the city’s history with this event.
“Norwich was instrumental in the nation’s fight for freedom, and I eagerly anticipate celebrating our rich history,” Singh said in a press release.
Following the ceremony, attendees will be able to enjoy America’s birthday cake inside city hall. Guests will also receive a complimentary bell commemorating the event, while supplies last.
