Chelsea Groton Foundation Boosts Support for Area Seniors with $10,000 Grant

The Chelsea Groton Foundation is continuing its commitment to supporting older adults across eastern Connecticut with a $10,000 grant to Thames Valley Council for Community Action’s (TVCCA) Senior Nutrition program. The increased award will help support both the agency’s Meals on Wheels program and congregate meal services at senior centers throughout the region.

For more than a decade, Chelsea Groton has been a valued partner in helping TVCCA provide nutritious meals, meaningful connections, and critical support to older residents. “Chelsea Groton Foundation’s continued generosity makes a tremendous difference in our ability to reach seniors where they are—whether that means providing a daily meal at a senior center or delivering food and a friendly check-in to someone at home,” said Eugene Theroux, TVCCA’s Director of Senior Nutrition. “This increased support helps us continue meeting the growing needs of older adults throughout our region.”

In addition to addressing food insecurity, TVCCA’s Senior Nutrition program serves as an important link to other resources that help seniors remain independent, including energy assistance, supplemental nutrition support, transportation resources, and referrals to community services.

As eastern Connecticut’s designated provider of Senior Nutrition services since 1974, TVCCA supports the health and well-being of older adults across a 1,200-square-mile service area. Each year, the program provides more than 270,000 meals to seniors throughout the region.

“Community investments from organizations like the Chelsea Groton Foundation help make these services possible,” said Mr. Theroux. “Their partnership allows us to continue providing not just meals, but connection, support, and peace of mind for the seniors we serve."
