City, ShopRite, Gemma Moran Food Center Set Emergency Food Drive for Friday; Virtual Donation Option Available

WHAT: Emergency Food Drive
WHEN: Friday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: ShopRite Supermarket, 351 North Frontage Road, New London; see below for other options
WHY: In response to the federal government shutdown and related cuts to the SNAP program. This is a partnership effort between the City, ShopRite, and the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center to provide food to the city’s most vulnerable populations: senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, children, hard-to-reach groups, and anyone forced to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table.
HOW: Those wishing to donate items but unable to get to ShopRite on Friday can bring food items to the New London Community and Recreation Center or to City Hall, first floor.
Food can be donated online by making a purchase through the Virtual Food Drive
Checks can be mailed to: Gemma E. Moran, United Way/Labor Food Center, 374 Broad St., New London, or dropped off at Shop Rite on Friday, Nov. 7, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Items most needed: Shelf-stable microwaveable meals (oatmeal, ramen, and mac & cheese cups), peanut butter, pasta and sauce, cereal, mac & cheese, canned fruit, canned vegetables, soup, rice, dry beans, shelf-stable milk.
