Program Overview

The Entrepreneur Academy (EA) is an eight-week business development program hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs transform ideas into sustainable ventures. Each cohort participates in expert-led workshops on market research, financial planning, legal considerations, marketing, and investor readiness, culminating in a public Final Pitch Night that connects graduates with investors and community leaders.

Since its launch in 2022, the Academy has grown into a recognized model for grassroots economic development, providing mentorship, community support, and access to capital for emerging businesses across Eastern Connecticut and beyond.

Applications have more than doubled since 2022, reflecting strong regional demand for entrepreneurial training. To date, EA has trained over 100 entrepreneurs representing technology, food & beverage, creative arts, trades, wellness, and professional services.

Commitment to Diversity, Equality & Inclusion

Since the inception of Academy, the Chamber has been committed to delivering the Entrepreneur Academy without bias and ensuring equitable access for minority, immigrant, veteran, disabled, LGBTQIA2S+, and women-owned business founders.

Across three years, the Academy has received 194 total applications, reflecting broad representation:

  • 69% women-owned businesses
  • 66% minority-owned businesses
  • Applicants also include immigrants, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and the LGBTQIA2S+ community
  • Business types include Retail Goods, Professional Services, Healthcare, Wellness & Fitness, Arts & Entertainment, Food Service, Education, Hospitality, Agriculture, and Environmental Services

This diversity demonstrates EA’s role as a trusted, inclusive pathway for underrepresented entrepreneurs.

Geographic Reach

What began as a local community–centered program has expanded statewide, attracting participants from Bridgeport, Stratford, Hartford, and across Connecticut. This expansion has drawn collaboration and interest from institutions such as UConn, Three Rivers Community College, Charter Oak State College, Connecticut College, Norwich Free Academy, Waterford High School, New London Public School, Junior Achievement of Southwest New England, signaling the Academy’s growing visibility and reputation.

Alumni ventures have gone on to secure funding, open storefronts, and create jobs in the region. Annual Pitch Night attendance averages about 100 community members, including investors, mentors, and elected officials. EA graduates continue to contribute to the regional economy through innovation, local hiring, and civic engagement.

Additionally, EA’s Business Funding Resource Expo is open to the public, strengthening financial literacy and capital access for small businesses beyond the cohort.

Final Pitch Night has become one of the Chamber’s signature annual events, celebrating innovation and inclusion in entrepreneurship.

With sustained investment, the Entrepreneur Academy aims to implement new features to enhance the program, including:
