Inspiring and Empowering Girls to Pursue Sports

The Stonington Community Center (COMO) is proud to announce the return of its "Her Time to Play" program, a basketball initiative designed to empower girls ages 7-14 through sports. Sponsored by Breezeline and the Community Foundation of Eastern CT Women and Girls Fund, this free afterschool program is held at Deans Mill School, West Vine School, and Stonington Middle School from April 6 to June 1, 2026.

"Her Time to Play" is part of a larger initiative created by the WNBA and NBA to inspire the next generation of girls to engage in basketball in a positive, supportive environment. With nearly twice as many girls compared to boys dropping out of sports by age 14 due to societal barriers, this program aims to foster confidence, leadership, and teamwork, while addressing the unique challenges faced by girls in sports.

"This program is made possible through generous support from Breezeline and the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut Women and Girls Fund, as well as the staff at the Stonington Public Schools,”said Coach TJ Faeth,  COMO Athletic Director and “This support provides an incredible opportunity for girls ages 7-14 in our community to tackle societal issues through a structured curriculum and a sport that they love.”
