Gernon Trust Awards Homelessness Prevention Grant to TVCCA

The R.S. Gernon Trust has renewed its support for Thames Vally Council for Community Action through a $5,000 grant for its Homelessness Prevention/Diversion Financial Assistance Program. The program offers monetary aid to lowincome individuals and families in Norwich facing housing crises which, if not promptly resolved, could lead to eviction and shelter entry. The program also helps tenants at risk of homelessness regain housing stability by covering back rent or utility bills, or underwriting security deposits and first month’s rent if the tenant must move. As its name implies, the program’s efforts are two-fold: preserving clients’ current housing (prevention), or, if that isn’t possible, securing a new unit (diversion). Ida Parker is the Director of Housing programs at

TVCCA and notes that the Gernon Trust has supported the program for over 20 years. “We are so appreciative of the Trust’s continued partnership, especially during these recent, very difficult times for many people. Their support has helped us provide safe, affordable housingthrough this program; it ensures that any incidence of homelessness in Norwich is rare, brief, and non-recurring.”
