Mitchell College Unveils Nursing SIM Lab

Mitchell College recently unveiled The Edward and Mary Lord Nursing Simulation and Skills Laboratory in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, December 6. The state-of-the-art SIM Lab is the hub of learning for the college’s new nursing program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.). It features medical equipment and high- and low-fidelity training manikins for nursing students to practice techniques and procedures used in a variety of healthcare settings. The first cohort of nursing students will begin in fall 2025.

The Edward and Mary Lord Foundation funded the construction and outfitting of the SIM Lab. Trustees from the foundation, including Kathryn Lord, Jeffrey Lord, and S. Joel Suisman, took part in the ceremonial event.

Dr. Tracy Y. Espy, president of Mitchell College, discussed a new initiative. The Healthcare Academy at Mitchell College will create a structured pathway into healthcare careers for middle school and high school students through a blend of education and practical, hands-on experiences. The academy will offer progressive experiences to foster early interest, build essential skills, and create a direct pipeline into healthcare careers for Connecticut’s diverse communities. Aligned with Mitchell College’s mission of providing a transformative and inclusive learning community, the Healthcare Academy welcomes and supports individuals from underserved populations and those who learn differently.
