The Mystic Irish Parade Committee is proud to announce Melanie Elizabeth Fleming as the 2025 Grand Colleen, alongside her distinguished court of Emma Forde, Maerin Lyon, Kelly Turley, and Elizabeth Zuro. These exceptional young women have been selected to receive scholarships recognizing their outstanding achievements and commitment to Irish heritage. The Grand Colleen and Court Scholarship, a cornerstone of the Mystic Irish Parade’s mission, celebrates the achievements and contributions of women of Irish descent to their communities. Recipients are chosen based on their academic excellence, leadership qualities, community involvement, and embodiment of Irish cultural values. The Grand Colleen will receive a $1,000 scholarship and members of the court $500. Melanie Elizabeth Fleming, a senior at Fitch High School in Groton, exemplifies these qualities. Her impressive record includes the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Book Award, membership in the National Honor Society, service as secretary of the Keyettes Club, participation in the string orchestra, and representation as a student member of the Groton Board of Education. A dedicated community member, Melanie is also a Bronze and Silver Award Girl Scout, having completed over hour 50 hours of community service. She is a competitive dancer at Dancers Ink in Mystic and an Ambassador Girl Scout in Troop 63176. Melanie will be attending the University of Connecticut in Storrs this fall, majoring in marketing. The 2025 Mystic Irish Parade is scheduled for Sunday, March 23 at 1 p.m. “We are thrilled to honor Melanie and her court,” said Elizabeth Ryan, Colleen Director. “These young women embody the spirit of Irish culture through their dedication to academics, leadership, and community service.
