Sea Services North America a Finalist for Two Oceantic Network Prestigious Ventus Awards

Sea Services North America (SSNA) has been named a finalist in two categories for the esteemed Ventus Awards presented by Oceanic Network, the premier global organization for offshore wind energy.

The Ventus Awards recognize groundbreaking individuals, companies, and initiatives advancing the global adoption of offshore wind energy and ocean renewables. These awards are the highest honor bestowed by Oceanic Network.

SSNA, a unique cooperative model, connects the expertise of commercial fishermen with offshore wind farm developers to provide vital scout and safety vessel services. The company has earned finalist spots in two categories: Health, Safety & Environment Program of the Year and Supply Chain Advancement-Private.

We are incredibly proud of this recognition, which highlights the exceptional and innovative work we do in partnership with the offshore wind energy sector,” said Gary Yerman, Fleet Manager and Founder of Sea Services North America. “This acknowledgment is a tribute to the fishermen who work tirelessly in all seasons, ensuring safe operations on the water. This honor belongs to them.”

To date, more than 140 fishermen have been trained to work on 18 vessels homeported in six states, contributing significantly to local economies. SSNA's initiatives increase safety and provide the commercial opportunity to supplement the challenges of commercial fishing. Through these partnerships, SSNA has scouted over 10,000 miles of seabed to identify potential hazards such as active or “ghost” fishing gear and other debris, allowing developers to work without delays caused by entanglements. These scouting missions, utilizing the fishermen’s native knowledge and specialized skills, boast a “zero strike” record, saving developers costly downtime and ensuring projects stay on schedule.

Every vessel in SSNA's fleet undergoes an extensive 130-point safety inspection by certified marine safety experts, ensuring compliance with standards that surpass U.S. Coast Guard regulations. Additionally, crew members perform daily safety and emergency drills and are required to meet rigorous training and certification standards to work with SSNA.

SSNA has distributed $18 million to local fishing vessel owners and crews, further strengthening the local economy while advancing offshore wind energy goals.

We’ve successfully bridged the gap between two industries that historically have conflicting interests by focusing on co-existence for mutual benefit. At the same time, through our network, we’ve supported projects that have improved the safety of over 68,000 commercial fishermen worldwide,” added Gordon Videll, President and CEO of Sea Services North America. “Being recognized by Oceanic Network for our innovative approach to address the industry challenges is truly gratifying.”

Oceanic Network refers to Ventus Award finalists as those who are “leading the global industry and driving innovation.” Winners of the 2025 Ventus Awards will be announced at a gala on April 29, during the three-day Oceantic Network 2025 International Partnering Forum in Virginia Beach, VA, where Sea Services North America will be present in partnership with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
