TVCCA Announces Return of AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Program to Eastern Connecticut

Older adults in eastern Connecticut will once again have access to transportation and food assistance through the return of the AmeriCorps Seniors Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Thames Valley Council for Community Action (TVCCA) announced this week. The program, which was suspended after funding ended in early 2025, is returning thanks to a new AmeriCorps grant awarded to TVCCA. While the grant is smaller than previous awards, it will focus on two critical needs for older adults: access to nutritious food and transportation to medical appointments.

"We're thrilled to bring RSVP back to eastern Connecticut," said TVCCA’s CEO Josh Kelly. "Although the program will have a narrower focus than in the past, this funding allows us to restore services that help older adults remain healthy, independent, and connected. We look forward to welcoming volunteers back and helping ensure more seniors can access the resources they need."

RSVP connects adults age 55 and older with volunteer opportunities that strengthen local communities while helping older residents maintain their independence. TVCCA expects to announce additional details about the program's relaunch, including volunteer recruitment and service availability, later this summer.

AmeriCorps is the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, connecting individuals and organizations through service to address the nation's most pressing challenges.
