The Frank Loomis Palmer Fund has awarded Thames Valley Council for Community Action $35,000 for its Homelessness Prevention program. The grant will provide monetary assistance to 55 New London residents in danger of eviction, positioning them to move forward in their quest for greater autonomy and economic security. “Preventing homelessness has been central to TVCCA’s Housing Services for 35 years,” notes Director of Housing Ida Parker. “Each year our prevention and diversion program supports over 60 low-income households; half of these families live in New London.” The Palmer Fund’s grant will assist with rent and utility payments, security deposits, and related housing expenses. All funds are distributed by TVCCA to verified landlords and service providers on behalf of clients. “By providing clients in housing crises with assistance, we’re helping avert the trauma of eviction and the long-term financial repercussions evictions can have on low-income households,” said Ms. Parker. “The Palmer Fund’s partnership is crucial to TVCCA’s effort to stop homelessness before it starts.” For more information on TVCCA’s Housing and Homelessness Prevention programs, visit tvcca.org/housing.
