The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation awarded Thames Valley Council for Community Action (TVCCA) $2,500 to offset the cost of meals delivered to 825 homebound seniors and those receiving meals in congregate settings within the Bank’s service area. “The towns of Jewett City, Preston, Plainfield, Brooklyn, Dayville, Putnam, and Pawcatuck are home to nearly a quarter of all Senior Nutrition program clients,” noted TVCCA’s Director of Senior Nutrition Eugene Theroux. “Many of our clients start out with congregate dining, sharing meals with friends and lingering afterwards to play cards or do craft projects. And as age-related issues begin to restrict their mobility, they can transition to Meals on Wheels. The program combines nutrition with the ability for our staff to check in on participants and make sure they get the support they need. Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation’s assistance makes sure we can accommodate anyone in their service area.” For more information on TVCCA’s nutrition programs, as well as its other programs helping people in need in eastern Connecticut, please visit www.tvcca.org.
