Thames Valley Council for Community Action (TVCCA) has been awarded a $20,000 Southeast General grant from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut to support its Homelessness Prevention and Diversion program—an initiative dedicated to helping local individuals and families stay safely housed. The program focuses on stopping housing crises before they escalate. “Prevention is generally the first step,” said Ida Parker, TVCCA’s Director of Housing. “We work directly with landlords to resolve issues before they lead to eviction, and we can provide financial assistance for overdue rent or utilities when needed.” Beyond immediate support, TVCCA’s housing team helps people explore and secure alternative living arrangements, offering guidance every step of the way. What makes the program especially effective is its strong network of community partners. Through collaboration with local service providers, healthcare organizations, and government agencies, clients can access a wide range of resources—from case management to referrals for additional support services. People in need can connect to the program through the United Way’s 211 helpline or the Eastern Connecticut Coordinated Access Network (ECAN), a coalition of 30 organizations working together to address homelessness across the region. “The partnership with the Community Foundation is essential,” Parker added. “Their support allows us not only to respond quickly when someone is at risk of losing housing, but also to provide the follow-up care that helps ensure long-term stability.” For more information on TVCCA’s Housing programs, please visit www.tvcca.org.
