Groton City: History in the Making Promotional Branding Video Now Availabl

City of Groton, August 18, 2024 – The City of Groton has released a promotional video aimed at showcasing its unique history, business-friendly atmosphere, tourism highlights, and overall quality of life for its residents. The video comes as a culmination of a years-long re-branding initiative that the City undertook, with the assistance of Miranda Creative, to help differentiate itself from nearby Town of Groton.

The video features the City’s new marketing brand, Groton City: History in the Making, which launched in summer 2024. With 2023 and 2024 offering milestone anniversaries of the founding of the Borough of Groton (120 years) and the founding of the City of Groton (60 years), there was an ideal opportunity to address the City and Town brand confusion and to launch a marketing brand for the City of Groton.

Through a committee process and with community input, a variety of brand concepts and taglines were presented and vetted. The final selection - Groton City: History in the Making - is an engaging, appropriate and timeless choice. It applies to both long-standing history and the history being made every day by the residents, visitors, and enterprises in the City of Groton.

The video, one minute and five seconds in length, exemplifies all that the City has to offer. It features recreational gems including Eastern Point Beach, Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park and Washington Park; local and national businesses that make their home and/or headquarters in the City; education; services available to City residents and businesses, and more.

“When I watched the video for the first time, I was speechless,” says Mayor Keith Hedrick, “It brings me great pride to lead the City of Groton each day, but the content of the promo struck a chord within me. I’ve been a resident of the City for over 25-years, and through that time I’ve seen much progress, however it is easy to forget in the day-to-day all of the special things that take place in the small 3.06-square mile piece of land we get to call our own. My hope is that this video serves as a source of pride for residents and as a tool to bring in additional industry and economic development, and of course tourism, as we have some of the best parks and beach in southeastern Connecticut.”

The video is featured on the City’s website (cityofgroton.com) and the City of Groton YouTube Channel (@cityofgroton5243).

Groton City: History in the Making branding will continue to launch over the coming months and years as the City has plans for further integration through wayfinding directional signage, welcome signs, street pole banners and more.
