Last Thursday, we celebrated 64 carpenters, metal workers, and other shipbuilders who successfully completed Electric Boat’s 2-year apprenticeship program. These sorts of careers are in high demand right now, and these men and women worked hard and gained the skills necessary to go after them. The jobs they’re taking on are critical to the U.S. Navy, and they also provide a great way of life for workers and their families. Between the increasing demand signal for submarines and the steady shipbuilding and A Sailor from Naval Submarine Base New London (SUBASE) was recently recognized as January’s Service Person of the Month (SPOM) by the Niantic Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut (Chamber).
Sonar Technician Submarines First Class Dakota L. Spahr, from Punta Gorda, Florida, who currently resides in New London, Connecticut, received the award during a dinner meeting of the Niantic Lions Club, February 1, at Flanders’s Fish Market restaurant.
The award is sponsored by the Chamber and Always Home is excited to announce the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors: Joshua Carter, Lauren Cipriani-Espineira and Robert Sampson, who will also serve as Board Treasurer. Elected at the October Annual Board meeting, each new volunteer member brings experience, knowledge and compassion for Always Home’s mission, Preventing Family Homelessness.

General Dynamics Electric Boat announced today that the U.S. Navy has awarded it a $9.474-billion contract modification option for construction and test of the lead and second ships of the Columbia class, as well as associated design and engineering support.
Electric Boat is the prime contractor on the Columbia program, which will replace the aging Ohio class of ballistic missile
GROTON, Conn. – Naval Submarine Base New London (SUBASE) will temporarily suspend the authorized access of local restaurant delivery and local food delivery services onto the installation beginning at Noon, Friday, March 27, until further notice.
The new action is being implemented as a force health protection measure to mitigate spread of COVID-19 and illness to Sailors living on the base and the base workforce.
Sailors and workers on SUBASE may still enjoy food take-out options on the base from the On the night of October 19,1944, Ensign Merle H. Longnecker of New Rockford, North Dakota and Ensign George K. The U.S. Navy today awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $174 million contract for nuclear-submarine work. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
Under the terms of the contract, Electric Boat will provide design agent, planning yard, and engineering services, as well as technical support for active nuclear submarines and submersible systems. The contract could be worth more than $1 billion over five years if all options are exercised and funded.

The Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival is an annual celebration promoting the State of Connecticut’s maritime heritage and spirit of innovation in conjunction with Connecticut Maritime Heritage Week.

Celebrating 150 Years of Naval Submarine Base New London
