Thousands of area families helped by more than 250 charitable organizations will benefit this holiday season from $400,000 raised through Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s 2023 Matching Gifts Program.

Based on the volume of generous donations from Charter Oak members United Way of Southeastern Connecticut held its first-ever gala benefit event to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center. United for Gemma honored the evolution of the Food Center from 1988 to present-day, as well as founder Gemma Moran, who passed away earlier this year.
The annual Gemma E. Moran Award for Inspiration was presented to James Newman, a member of United Way’s Board of Directors and the MDA-UAW Local 571.
Rodney Butler, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal United Way of Southeastern Connecticut will hold its inaugural United for Gemma Benefit Gala on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the Mashantucket Pequot Research Center and Museum from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to raise funds to support the Gemma Legacy Fund. The Fund will collectively create sustainable support for the ongoing operation of the Food Center program named after its founder Gemma Moran.
