The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut announces nearly $300,000 in 2022 grant awards from its four Women & Girls Funds. The goal of the grants is to invest in women and girls across the 42-town region by supporting programs that focus on economic security, education and workforce development, health and wellbeing, leadership and advocacy.
Northeast Area Women & Girls Fund awarded $22,000 to nine nonprofitsNorwich Area Women & Girls Fund awarded $23,000 to three nonprofitsSoutheast Area Women & The Overdose Action Team/NLC CARES Team will join people around the world in observing International Overdose Awareness Day on Wednesday, August 31. This year, the NLC CARES Team will travel throughout the region to hold a series of ‘pop-up’ events designed to raise awareness of the overdose epidemic and to encourage everyone in the community to be part of the effort to save lives. Community members are welcome to come to one or more of the events to learn about overdose and receive a free Ledge Light Health District Director of Health Stephen Mansfield has announced plans to retire in July of 2023, after 25 years of distinguished service with the organization. Deputy Director Jennifer Muggeo, who has been with the health district since 2005, was appointed on Thursday by the District Board of Directors to step into the Director of Health role when Mansfield retires.

In response, LLHD has increased the number of diabetes self-management programs it provides throughout SECT. “Live Well with Diabetes”, developed by Stanford University, is a unique evidence-based, six-week workshop offered at no-cost to adults
