Mystic, CT – Mystic Museum of Art (MMoA) is showing a collection of works by renowned contemporary painter Walter Robinson this fall. The show has been curated by MMoA Executive Director George King.
Robinson is best known for his paintings of the melodramatic scenes of desire based on illustrations done for pulp paperback covers of the 1940s and '50s. Young at Art, the region’s biggest annual youth art exhibition, will showcase creative mixed media work from hundreds of regional students throughout New London County and Rhode Island with many group projects from area schools displayed. Receiving will take place MYSTIC, CT – Mystic Arts Center (MAC) presents a series of wine tasting and discussion on the relationship between art and wine, in conjunction with Frizzante Wine Bar, which will be located on the ground floor of MAC’s new building at 15 Water Street. Owner Stephen Clemente will lead the tastings and artists and art-professionals will lead discussions on various topics relating art and wine. The cost to members is $20, and $25 for non-members.

Mystic Arts Center (MAC) Board of Directors has announced that Executive Director, Karen N. Barthelson, will be leaving MAC early in 2015. Barthelson, who lives in Stonington, has been MAC Executive Director for the past eight years. She has been with MAC for the past seventeen years beginning in May of 1998 and served in various positions including Director of Exhibitions and Collections before accepting the position as Executive Director in 2006. She has been an Elected Artist Member since MYSTIC, CT – December 29, 2014 – Mystic Arts Center (MAC) seeks to broaden our young artist community and better represent the scope of the art world today by introducing our newest exhibition, NextGen. NextGen is a juried, all media show featuring Millennial artists, ages 16 to 35, the next generation to sustain the art community. The show will be juried by UConn Lecturer in Illustration and Animation, Alison Paul and UConn Professor of Communication Design, Mary Banas.
We seek artists who have a unique MYSTIC, CT – December 16th, 2014 – Mystic Arts Center (MAC) seeks submissions from regional artists for our upcoming open juried theme exhibition, “Home.” The juror for this show will be Harley Bartlett.
Two works may be submitted. All media is welcome with the exception of photography. Theme is open to the artist’s interpretation. All work should be original in concept and execution. All artwork must have been completed solely by the artist, with no guidance from an instructor and not worked on in
Several of MAC’s founders were under 40 years old when our organization came to be. Charles Davis was 57 when he founded MAC and worked side by side with younger co-founders, creating a continuity of community that nurtured artists for generations to come. Younger artists serve as a reflection on the unique issues and identity of their generation.
