This spring, the Chelsea Groton Foundation provided $289,000 to 63 non-profit organizations from Connecticut and Rhode Island. Inclusive of these donations, the Foundation has provided over $5.3 million in total grants to the community since 1998.
Approximately half of the funds were distributed to Health & Human Services organizations, including our local hospitals: Backus Hospital ($8,000), Lawrence & Memorial Hospital ($7,500) and Westerly Hospital ($7,500). The largest grant, $25,000, was awarded to The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation recently awarded numerous grants to support 30 programs that benefit children and families in the region.
The mission of the Foundation, a 501(c)3 overseen by a volunteer board with support from the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT, is to enhance and enrich education and economic opportunities for children and families through generous donations from the business community. Offshore wind joint development partners Ørsted and Eversource today announced that they have awarded a $100,000 grant to the Niantic Children’s Museum. The award will support the creation of several new hands-on, STEM-focused exhibits that will help educate and inspire the next generation of scientific leaders. The grant will initially be used to support the museum’s “A-Mazing Airways” New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) opened registration for its 2020 Summer Camp. NESS summer programs run Monday through Friday for 10 weeks (June 22 - August 28). The half-day and full-day programs are open to students from ages 4-17 and located in Stonington, CT.NESS, a nationally-recognized and award-winning ocean adventure STEM education nonprofit, provides students of all ages with year-round programming that includes marine science, sailing, powerboating, and adventure sports. NESS's Pfizer’s Groton Laboratories and the Clinical Research Unit, New Haven will support more than 60 programs in Southeastern Connecticut, the greater New Haven area, and southern Rhode Island through its 2019 competitive grants program.

Marine Maker Day Returns June 8
Groton, CT – Ignite, a program of Thames River Innovation Place, is pleased to announce the return of its Marine Maker Day, an exploration of marine technology for students in grades 7 through 10. The full-day program will take place on Saturday, June 8th from 9 am - 4 pm at Project Oceanology in Groton. NESS, a nationally-recognized and award-winning ocean adventure STEM education nonprofit, provides students of all Stonington, CT – Project Oceanology and the New England Science & Sailing (NESS) invite teachers in grades 4-12 for a free, 2-day professional development program and that will focus on the science of the Long Island Sound with STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) and NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). The program will last from 2:00pm on Friday, October 19 to 2:00pm on Saturday, October 20.
