The Cultural Coalition is pleased to announce the schedule of music-making events for the fifth annual Make Music Day Southeastern CT, part of a global music celebration that takes place on the summer solstice each year. The 2022 listings are available on www.MakeMusicDay.org/southeasternCT. With more than 75 live, free performances in the region, music lovers can see the schedule by town, musician, location, genre, and more! Most performances are planned for outdoors, with rain options included on the Groton, Conn. – Connecticut Humanities, the statewide, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), has awarded the Bill Memorial Library in Groton a CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grant (CTCFOSG).
These funds will be used to catalog and preserve the library’s genealogical and museum collection, upgrade and expand its digital infrastructure, and help to purchase additional equipment for the library’s virtual programming. With the pandemic, much of the library’s programming NEW LONDON, CT -- Thames River Heritage Park announced the creation of a new program to support the heritage sites along the Thames. Modeled after the successful Portland (Maine) History Docent (PHD) training program, the inaugural Thames River Heritage Park Docent Academy – a 10-week training program for current and prospective volunteer guides – will begin on Thursday, March 10, 2022 and meeting every Thursday morning from 9 AM – 12 PM.
A collaborative effort by Thames River Heritage Park Foundation and New London Mayor Michael Passero and other dignitaries will be recognizing the incredible efforts of Rotary Clubs across Connecticut. Connecticut’s 92 Rotary Clubs and their 4,000 members have raised and spent more than $500,000 to help our communities during the Covid-19 crisis. This massive effort to provide PPE, food, and financial support is an unprecedented effort for Rotary, and it is far from over. Rotarians will continue to work hard, in their cities and towns, to help those who need it as we battle New London, CT – The Thames River Heritage Park Foundation (TRHPF) has received a grant from the Panoram Foundation for $30,000 for operational support and the development of collaborative efforts among the 17 sites that comprise the Park experience. A collection of national and historic sites and institutions on both shores of the Thames River linked by a seasonal water taxi, the Thames River Heritage Park is the only heritage park in Connecticut and operates as a 501(C) 3 non-profit organization.
“The Groton, CT – Richard Kent, Jr. will serve as president of the Groton Rotary Club for the 2018-19 Rotary year. He succeeds Gary Weale.
Rotary District 7980 Governor Larry Gardner was present to swear in all Club officers, board members and foundation members. The event was held at a special dinner meeting held at the Shennecossett Yacht Club.
Other installed officers are: Frank Winkler, president-elect; Michael Whitehouse, vice president; Jackie Massett, secretary; and Lea Doran, treasurer.

Historic and cultural sites in the Groton Bank neighborhood will be collaborating to provide a special experience for visitors as we celebrate the statewide Connecticut Open House Day on June 9. All events are free and family friendly. Free boat service will be available between Groton and New London on the Thames River Heritage Park Water Taxi, sponsored by Electric Boat and operating from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
