The Breezeline Winter Cinema Series, celebrating twenty or more of the finest nominated and acclaimed films of 2023, will open at the Garde Arts Center’s historic movie palace at 325 State Street in downtown New London on Friday, January 19 at 7:30 pm with Maestro, the love story of America’s most famous conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein starring Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan and directed by Cooper.
The Maestro screening will include opening remarks by a student of Bernstein, Eastern United Way of Southeastern Connecticut held its first-ever gala benefit event to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center. United for Gemma honored the evolution of the Food Center from 1988 to present-day, as well as founder Gemma Moran, who passed away earlier this year.
The annual Gemma E. Moran Award for Inspiration was presented to James Newman, a member of United Way’s Board of Directors and the MDA-UAW Local 571.
