Mystic, CT – On this Earth Day 2019, Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport Museum and the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center are proud to announce plans for a multi-day, community-wide Earth Day 2020 event in celebration of the movements 50th anniversary. The events, which will be announced in detail in the coming months, will engage a host of like-minded community partners as well as the general public in support of habitat restoration, conservation and overall collective action.
The first Earth Day, held on Mystic, CT – Tickets are on sale for the annual culinary adventure, Dinner In the Dark, taking place Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa.
Now in its fourth year, Dinner in the Dark is the major annual fundraiser for Sofia Sees Hope, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research and providing education and support to families affected by blindness caused by Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) and other rare inherited retinal diseases.
This event comes at a Oct. 22 fundraiser for Sofia Sees Hope to feature Jean Bennett M.D., Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Mystic, CT – Dr. Jean Bennett, M.D., Ph.D., a groundbreaking researcher from the University of Pennsylvania who is working to cure blindness, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Dinner in the Dark event to benefit local charity Sofia Sees Hope.
In its first two years, Dinner in the Dark raised more than $130,000 to fund research into rare retinal diseases. With the third dinner coming up Pine Point to Host Royce Speaker Series for Community Conversations
Stonington, CT — Pine Point School will host two important speakers on campus in April as part of the newly established Royce Speaker Series. Generously backed by current Pine Point grandparents Chuck and Deborah Royce, the Speaker Series will prove to be a great resource for Pine Point families and the greater community.
Rosetta Eun Ryong Lee of the Seattle Girls’ School will speak April 1 on how cultural values, power, privilege and Students at Pine Point School raised more than $1,000 in December in funds and toys to donate to local charities.
Organized by Pine Point’s G.I.V.E. Committee (Generosity, Involvement, Volunteerism and Education), the efforts benefitted the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, Jonnycake Center in Westerly, and the Center for Hospice Care of Southeast Connecticut.
The G.I.V.E. Committee is an elected group of middle school students who organize all the school’s philanthropic efforts.
