NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy women's indoor track and field team has cracked the Top 10 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) Division III national poll as the Bears checked in at number 10.

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy wrestling team has its highest ever national ranking as the Bears are tied for 10th nationally in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Preseason poll.
The Bears, who were 9-3 in dual meets last season and placed 2nd at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional a year ago, are only team from New England in the preseason poll which ranks the top 15 teams in the country.
Coast Guard also has four wrestlers with Abbott Named Roger O. Walther (Class of '58) Assistant Football CoachDerik Abbott has been named the first Roger O. Walther (Class of '58) assistant football coach.
Abbott is a 2016 graduate of Robert Morris University with a BA in Communications and earned a Master's degree in Communications from Lindenwood University where was as the offensive quality control coach in 2018. He was the co-offensive coordinator at Olympia High School in Olrando for six months before arriving at the Academy.

Coast Guard is coming off its most successful season in over a decade as the Bears finished 7-3 overall and tied for second in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 5-2 record. It was the most wins for the Bears since the team went 8-2 in 2007. Head coach Bill George, who begins his 21st season with a program record 70 wins, and the Bears welcome back 14 starters, seven on each side of the ball.

U.S. Coast Guard LTJG Nikole Barnes has teamed with Lara Dallman-Weiss to chase the dream of qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
Barnes and Dallman-Weiss, Team Perfect Vision Sailing, will next compete August 17-22 in Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Japan, which is the host venue for the 2020 Olympic Games.
The duo qualified in the Women's 470 by finishing 20th out of a 45 boat fleet at the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar regatta in Spain in April. The duo placed 15,16 and 25 The Coast Guard Academy was named the recipient of the June Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative in the NCAA Division III July 2019 monthly publication.
The Diversity Spotlight Initiative recognizes and promotes outstanding diversity-related projects, programming and initiatives occurring on Division III campuses and conference offices.
To foster a more inclusive environment, the members of the Academy's Office of Diversity and Inclusion attended a seven-day Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity The Coast Guard Academy Athletics Division has named Richelle Johnson the Academy's first NCAA Inclusion and Diversity Designee.
Johnson is a civilian staff member within the Office of Inclusion and Diversity, who has partnered with Athletics on several diversity initiatives. In her new position she will be charged with serving as the primary contact and conduit for diversity and inclusion-related information.

The women's 800 freestyle relay of Sarah Passilla, Kristen Durham-Young, Emily Benson and Josie McGuireplaced seventh with the school record time of 7:29.60 to earn Joe Rodriguez
Greensboro, NC – Joe Rodriguez broke the school record in the 50 freestyle and earned a pair of All-America honors to highlight the first day of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
Rodriguez placed third in the 50 freestyle with a school record time of 19.88 and was part of the 200 medley relay team with Patrick Jackson, Chasse Sodemann and Tyler Dominick which finished in eighth with a time of 1:29.98 to earn All-America honors.
It was the first two All-America honors AJ AeberliRoanoke, VA – U.S. Coast Guard Academy Junior AJ Aeberli earned All-America honors with a sixth place finish at 174 pounds at the Division III Wrestling Championship.
Aeberli, the fifth seed at 174, was appearing in his second straight NCAA Championship. He went 2-1 on March 8 to assure himself a top eight finish and the first All-America honors of his career.
On March 9, he beat Jacob Krakow from Lora 5-3, before falling to Kyle Briggs from Warburg 6-5 in the consolation semfinal to fall to the
Davis Earns All-America Honors in 800 Meters; Women Place Best Ever 10th
Boston, MA – Sophomore Josiah Davis placed eighth in the 800 meters to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Davis, making his NCAA Championship debut placed third his heat with time if 1:53.32 to earn a spot in the today's final where he ran a 1:54.80 to become an All-American.
On the women's side with Kaitlyn Mooney winning the national championship in Mooney Wins National Championship in 5,000 Meters With DIII Record Time
Boston, MA – Sophomore Kaitlyn Mooney ran the fastest time ever recorded in Division III history to win the National Championship in the 5,000 meters and was the anchor of the DMR team which earned All-America honors with a third place finish at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Mooney, who becomes the first CGA female athlete to win a track national championship, blew away the FT BENNING, Ga. – Coast Guard won the open aggregate national championship for the first time in school history on the final day of the NRA Intercollegiate Pistol Championships.
Senior Helen Oh won the women's Air Pistol national championship for the fourth straight year and the open all-around national championship for the second straight season. She is the only shooter to ever win the women's and open national championship in the same season and accomplishes the feat for the second straight time.

Westkott Named NEWMAC Men's Co-Coach of the YearNew London, CT – John Westkott has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Swimming Co-Coach of the Year.
Westkott, in his 20th season as head coach at the Academy, earns NEWMAC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year honors for fourth straight season and the ninth time in his career. He shares the honor this season with Paul Bennett from WPI.
Coast Guard, ranked 16th nationally, placed second for the third straight season New London, CT – Coast Guard men's lacrosse open the season with a spot on the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Division III national rankings. After a dominating 10-1 win over Elizabethtown in the season opener on Saturday, the Bears earned the #20 spot in the rankings.
Senior goalie Trey Johnson backstopped the Bears with 13 saves on 14 shots in the victory. Junior Logan Morin led the Bears offense with a hat trick, while senior Benner Geurtsen and sophomore Will Iorio both scored two goals a piece.
The Bears New London, CT – For the second time this indoor season, sophomore Kaitlyn Mooney has been named the Division III Women's National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Mooney returned to the track this past weekend two weeks after clocking the third fastest time in NCAA DIII history in the indoor 3000. This time, Mooney competed in the 5000 and made sure her name was higher on the record book.
The sophomore from Manahawkin, New Jersey, crossed the New London, CT – The Coast Guard Academy women's indoor track and field team has cracked the national Top 15 rankings as the Bears jumped 19 spots to #12 after outstanding performances from All-American Kaitlyn Mooney in the 3,000 meters and the DMR team two weeks ago.
The Bears are the second highest ranked in the NEWMAC and the third highest team in New England as MIT is ranked second and Williams is ranked third nationally.

Zarlengo Breaks School Record and Qualified for National Championship at Wheaton Invitational
Norton, MA – Junior Ben Zarlengo broke the school record in the weight throw, also qualifying for the National Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Wheaton Invitational. Coast Guard men's indoor track also had six DIII New England qualifiers.
Zarlengo had a first place finish in the weight throw at 18.36m to break the school record and qualify for the national championships.
James Duren had a second New London, CT – Coast Guard Academy Director of Athletics Tim Fitzpatrick announced he is stepping down to become President of the New York Youth Baseball Foundation. He will assume his new role in February.
Fitzpatrick was in his seventh year as Director of Athletics at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and on his watch the athletic program has seen growth in several key areas.
The Bears have won four straight Superintendent's Trophies against the Merchant Marine Academy and are well on their way to a Bears to Open 2019-20 Season at Armed Forces Classic in AlaskaNew London, CT – The Coast Guard men's basketball team will take part in the 2019 Armed Forces Classic at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.
The Bears will open the 2019-2020 season against Division II Alaska-Anchorage while Baylor will take on Washington in the second game of the doubleheader. The Armed Forces Classic is owned and operated by ESPN Events, a division of ESPN.
This will be the second time that the Coast Guard The Coast Guard Academy held its eighth annual Women's LeadHERship Symposium on Monday in the Otto Graham Hall of Athletic Excellence in Billard Hall. The event saw over 130 women in attendance, ranging from Division III to Division I.

Coast Guard is back in action on Oct. 13th at the Conn. College Cambridge, MA – Coast Guard sophomore wide receiver Justin Moffatt has won the prestigious New England Football Writers' Gold Helmet, sponsored by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation as he did a little bit of everything and finished with 290 yards of total offense in the Bears 38-35 win over Norwich to retain The Mug.
The Gold Helmet is presented to the Division I (FBS and FCS) and II/III football players who have established himself for outstanding New Orleans, LA – After a strong showing at the Purple Valley Invitational, the Coast Guard women's cross country team is now ranked eighth in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) New England Region poll.
The Bears finished seventh as a team topping Amherst, who was previously ranked eighth in the region, and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe WPI.

11:50 Campus Tour New London, CT – Long-time Assistant Coach Greg Ahnrud has been named interim head coach for both the men's and women's cross country team for the 2018 season.
Ahnrud takes over for Ethan Brown who will be out this season on paternity leave and will return for the indoor track & field season.
"When we brought Coach Ahnrud on board in 2012, he helped establish a sound training program that was mindful of the challenges our cadet-athletes encounter," commented Brown. "Having Greg take the lead this season The ordinary summer day of a college athlete would probably consist of sleeping late, getting in a workout, and heading to the beach with some friends.
At the Coast Guard Academy however, summer is a busy time for cadets and this summer for senior Bryce Schroeder, a member of the men's basketball team, was anything but ordinary.

New London, CT – The Coast Guard Athletic Department announces the hiring of Kayla Schroeher as the women's lacrosse assistant coach for the 2019 season.
Schroeher joins the Bears after playing four years at Springfield College where she helped the Pride to four straight NEWMAC Championship games and two NCAA appearances including the programs first ever trip to the Sweet 16 in 2016.
Schroeher finished her career with 85 goals, 24 assists and 109 New London, CT – The Coast Guard Athletic Department announces the hiring of Emily O'Donnell as the women's basketball assistant coach for the 2018-19 season.
O'Donnell joins a team that earned an appearence in the NEWMAC tournament for the sixth straight year after completing the 2017-18 season with a 13-13 record.
O'Donell spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Misericordia University. She earned her Masters Degree in Organizational Management Health
Henry Named Women's Volleyball Assistant CoachNew London, CT – The Coast Guard Athletic Department announces the hiring of Allie Henry as the women's volleyball assistant coach for the 2018 season.
Henry joins a team that posted its ninth straight winning season with a record of 16-14 and 5-5 in the NEWMAC and their 17 straight season of a .500 record or better in conference play.

The 2018 schedule features five home games and just one home opponent, Maine Maritime, that has played here in New London in the last 13 years. Coast Guard will host Union for the first time since 2004 and Norwich and WPI for the first time since 2005.

The freshman phenom finished in 17:42.76 with temperatures in the mid 90's. She had the 15th fastest time in Division III this season in the 5K heading into the championship with a school-record time of 16:53.70 which she ran at the Silfen Invitational in April.

Fort Benning, GA – Junior Helen Oh and sophomore Kevin Bennett each won a national championship and the women's team won the Air Pistol National Championship to highlight the first day of shooting at the NRA Collegiate Pistol Championship.
Oh won Women's Air Pistol for the third straight season while Bennett won Men's Air Pistol for the first time.

New London, CT – The Coast Guard Academy Athletics Division has selected Crist Holveck to be its first ever Director of Rugby, Director of Athletics Tim Fitzpatrick announced.
Holveck, who retired from the Coast Guard in the spring of 2017 as a Lieutenant Commander, has achieved considerable success during his tenure as the head coach of the men's rugby club team at CGA - leading the Bears to national tournament appearances on four occasions since assuming the reigns in 2014. The Coast Guard Academy held its sixth annual Women's LeadHERship Symposium on Tuesday in Billard Hall with over 120 women in attendance.
Patti Phillips, the CEO of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) gave the keynote address to begin the symposium.
